COVID-19 Impact On Schools

The COVID lockdown has created interruption in the learning process of many educational institutions and also disruption in the internal assessments and the cancellation of many public assessments for certifications. The majority of the countries have closed their schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutes to prevent the increase in the number of COVID cases. Teaching and assessment have moved online with no proper quality of education; because the curriculum of schools relies on social interaction and practical learning which is missing in the online methods of teaching. This pandemic is not only a loss of social life for the students but also a huge responsibility for the parents and teachers to support schooling at home. In a certain survey where assessment tests for young students with different conditions of learning were conducted to check the difference of extra hours at schooling; the students who spend improving their skills by extra hours at schooling score well in the test. Social interaction and the environment at the school trains the mind with problem-solving skills. Now, due to this pandemic situation, the development of problem-solving skills is lagging.

We don’t even know how long this epidemic will stay with us. Till then the education will be done at home. The best tool available to raise skills is to regularly attend school. The time at school can be fun and also can be used to raise social skills and social awareness. The primary part of being in a school is to increase a child’s ability.

Families play a major role in a child’s learning

For the child to learn about history parents used to take them for historical monument visits, to make the student learn practically the parents used to go for the extra mile off getting the chemistry experiment kit. The inability to learn something practically is deteriorating the education system. Even among the toughest situations parents are helping their kids and making them learn at home with the help of online education. The shutdown of schools Universities and colleges has not just interrupted the teaching for students around the world, but it has encouraged canceling the assessments and exams. For the majority of students, internal assessments encourage them to prepare and learn for the exam. Due to the pandemic, schools have considered internal assessments to be least important. Prevailing with the current situation, the schools & universities are majorly focusing on making the students learn. A long-term situation like this will decrease the self-esteem of the students that will negatively affect them.

Unlike this, there are a few countries that have completely erased the examinations for this particular year and have promoted to the next year of school without any examination held. The career of the graduates who have passed this year through the start of a pandemic recession might be at risk. Studies show that graduates with high paid salary courses might be compromised with low-paying jobs in this recession time.

While the students belonging to well-to-do families are waiting for everything to be normal again and are being active on social media; some students belong to economically backward families who do not have proper resources to be online. The students who are disabled & from low-income backgrounds are being affected hugely.

In such cases, the Government of the under-developed and developing countries is arranging for the basic resources that need to be there to continue the education among poor families. One more factor regarding this is that the parent of the child should also be well educated to support the student for learning from home. Due to the pandemic, many people have lost their jobs, and after the schools are reopened the parents will not be willing to send their kids back to educational institutions.

This is an increasing problem in low-income families

Due to this outbreak, the mental health of the child is at risk. To prevent this situation the teachers and also the parents must be caring enough to encourage the kid’s mental health. In the social aspect, a single child may lag but a child with more than one sibling will improve on social skills at a quick rate.…
